Ideas For Decorating Your Teenager's Bedroom
It is a great idea to celebrate your child becoming a teenager by decorating their bedroom, however, it demands finding a fine balance between supporting their advancing personal style while also guiding the project.
Therefore, aim for a look that your teenager will like until the end of their high school years, to escape having to repaint when they feel like they have become bored by the bright orange or florid pink which they loved when they were 13.
Being a professional painting company, we have curated these three themes as inspiration to decorate your teenager’s bedroom.
1. Dramatic
Teenagers love a bit of drama. For painting their bedroom, they may be inclined towards darker shades, or even want to paint their entire room black. Incorporating a touch of drama can function well in a teenager's room, if you do it in a limited way.
Black, for example, can be an elaborate colour that suggests independence when used properly. Too much will not look good, though. Suggest your teenager to have one wall with stripes or feature wall rather than painting the entire room in a dramatic shade. Balance the black colour with lighter shades on other walls of the room, such as with a beanbag, bright rug, or bedspread.
Instead of pure black, you can also recommend colours like Blackout (a carbon brown) or Black Rock (a blue prominent violet). These shades still incorporate the drama, but with a little less typical teenage vibe.
2. Fun
Teenagers just love to have fun above anything else. This is where crisp geometric shapes, bright colours, and bold stripes play a role. While your teenager can be free to select the design, provide suggestions on the best colour combinations.
Colour combinations such as aqua and pink, for a dynamic, yet calming effect. Or for a more minimalist look you can incorporate bright colours into their bedroom with shelves or other furniture. Shades of yellow can also encourage optimism.
3. Serene
Being a teenager can be tough, with excessive hormonal changes, and school and social pressures weighing on your child. Creating a relaxed and calm space can provide your teenager comfort, and provide a place to collect and recharge themselves. It is important to choose colours that give a calming effect to make their room a sanctuary.
For teenage girls, mauve or lavender shades are elegant and subtle. These pastel shades have the extra bonus of looking more adult too, so the girls may still like the shades when they get older. For boys, greens and blues are relaxing and subtle.
